Beaches Of Lassi

Kefalonia is situated on the west side of the Greek mainland. There are so many different ways of spelling Kefalonia and some of these ways include Cephallonia, Kefallonia and Cephalonia. The island itself is said to be named after Cephalus, who was an individual from Greek Mythology and was the founding head of a great family.

Kefalonia is an island with deep caves, blue seas and spectacular mountain ranges. It is also immersed in history. All the Ionian Islands which included Kefalonia were united back with Greece in 1864 after spending hundreds of years being passed from diverse leaderships such as Roman ruling and Norman ruling.

In 1953 the Island would change forever, in looks and in population when a sequence of catastrophic earthquakes hit the island, one of them recording 7.3 on the Richter Scale. The earthquake ruined a great quantity of structures and resulted in billions of drachmas in damages, and at least 80% of the 125,000 strong population decided to leave the island for a fresh start on other nearby islands. There are remarkable signs still on the island such as ruined buildings that have been left untouched as a monument to the 1953 disaster.

Kefalonia attracts numerous tourists from across the world comprising mainly of English and Italian holidaymakers as these are both nearby and this has been increased since the release of a film that was filmed on the island of Kefalonia in 2001.

One of the most popular resorts on the island is Lassi with its lively ambience that is ideal for all kinds of holidaymakers. Lassi plays host to many shops that are great for gift ideas so you won’t get bored. If you enjoy walks on the beaches Lassi has the best long sweeping sandy beaches and winding bays that will make for romantic evening strolls.

Many of the beaches on the island are among the best on all the Greek islands put together. With unusual rocky coastlines and striking harbours Kefalonia is home to fabulous scenery and peaceful relaxing beach breaks . If you are engrossed in exploring more of the island of Kefalonia, there are regular cruises and trips that take you to other parts of the island and nearby islands.

If you enjoy scuba diving there are many instructors on the island that will make your break a more memorable time leaving you wanting more. Whether you are an experienced diver or a complete beginner you will get the chance to swim with life in the ocean in a completely different environment. Choose from wreck diving and cave diving and see some extraordinary sites that will be the talk of conversation for years to come.
