Insulating Sleeves - Can they really save me money?

Whether you are in business or looking to save money personally, one way that you can do so is by cutting down on the amount of energy used by your business or within your home. The cost of all sources of energy has been rising steadily over the past five years, and the result is that businesses and individuals alike must take the large dollar amount they pay to energy producing companies into account when formulating a budget. In addition to the cost of energy, the increasing fear of the consequences of global warming has had a direct affect on many levels of government, which are imposing fees and handing out rewards to places which use less energy.

The cost of energy of all kinds is unlikely to fall any time soon, but businesses and individuals can save money, and thus add money to the bottom line each month, by making sure that homes and businesses are as efficient as possible when it comes to energy. One way is to guard against the loss of the heat that is generated by the energy and used for several purposes. Before we get into that, let’s take a look at how heat gets lost.

The loss of energy

If we are being very technical, the inefficiency of energy is due to laws of energy and thermodynamics. What these laws state is that energy just has a natural tendency to be lost. The best example is a light bulb; 60% of a standard light bulb’s energy is not in the form of light, but in heat. This energy is lost and in addition is useless.

The same is true for heat energy. It has a natural tendency to radiate out from sources and thus, in industry, you will never receive the full heat intended for one area as it gets lost along the way. Hot water is a great example; much of the heat will be lost as it travels through pipes.

Keeping that energy in

One way to ensure that you don’t lose all of this energy is to cover pipes and the other methods used to conduct energy. Coverings, such as insulation sleeves, act like coats for pipes; they keep as much energy in as possible so that more of it arrives at a destination. There will still be some loss, but overall a lot less energy will dissipate out of the system.

And, of course, the more heat energy that reaches its destination, the quicker the heating job or other function will go. Basically, you will find that it takes much less power to drive your business or household because more energy is being used efficiently – and that means that you will be saving money as far as raw energy costs!
