Investing in a Lift Chair to Improve Safety

When we are young it is very common to consider your parents to be invincible. As we get older though, we begin to realize that are parents are not actually invincible and it can be hard to seem them age. As parents it can be hard to ask your child for help, especially if you are used to taking care of them. Aging is something that happens to everyone though, and frequently things like standing up can be both painful and difficult.
There are many factors that can make it hard to stand. One of the reasons that it can be difficult to stand is arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and occurs when the cartilage that protects the joints begins to wear away. This commonly affects the knees and can make it very hard to stand without any assistance. When you have been sitting for extended periods of time, it can be even more difficult to stand. As a way of protecting themselves, many who have difficulty standing will sit for longer periods of time in order to reduce the number of times they must stand up.
Lift chairs are a great way to allow a person to stand and sit without any outside assistance. They are recliners that have a special lifting mechanism affixed to them. When activate, the lifting mechanism raises the base of the chair into the air. When sitting, this makes it very easy to transition into a standing position. Lift chairs are also used to make the transition from standing to sitting safe and easy.
One of the major advantages of a lift chair is that they are easy to use. Usually a remote control is used to activate the chair and it is commonly attached directly to the chair so that it can not be lost. Some do use buttons that are built into the side of the chair or armrest, but most feature some type of remote control. The buttons on the remote control are large and it is usually very easy to use. Modern lift chairs utilize electric motors to lift the chair and the backrest and footrest are also controlled by electricity. You might occasionally come across a lift chair that utilizes a spring in place of an electric motor. Spring operated chairs can be very dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.
Lift chairs are a great way for you to ensure that your parents will always be able to stand and sit easily and without pain. They allow them to retain their independence and go on with their regular life without having to ask for assistance every time they want to get out of their chair. A lift chair will also reduce a lot of the wear and tear that a caregiver is subjected to as they lift an individual up out of their chair.
Investing in a lift chair is a great way to help make certain that you or someone you loved will never be stuck in their chair again. There are many models to choose from and some come with heat and massage, which can sooth tired joints.
