Living beyond your means

By: Bruce Mills

If you aren't able to live with in your budget you may need to think outside the box for ways to cut expenses. Another way is to consult a professional to help you with your expenses and budgets. If you continue to spend more than you make, you will keep using up your savings, retirement money, increase your debt and your monthly payments towards your debt. It is like quick sand for your finances.

Ways others have cut expenses to live with in there budget
1. Eat out less. Make more meals at home, take your lunch to work. Some people may eat out everyday for lunch and then eat out 3 to 5 nights a week from supper. Eating lunch out can range from $5 to $10 per lunch, but if you bring your lunch you could spend over half that. People eating out could average $10 to $20 for a single, to $20 to $50 for couples and then kids can really add to the bill. Or you could eat at home and spend less than $3 a meal and have a nice meal. Eating in you also save on gas to go there. Save over 70 and there is no tip needed.

4. Cancel that Gym membership. Some people only go a few times a month but some spend as high as $60 or more a month. Why not go buy some free weights for $30 and work out at home instead. Also you could go for walks and runs in your neighborhood.

5. Utilities, how high are your bills compared to your friends. Ask your friends what they spend. You may be able to lower your by using more sunlight than having lights on. Turn lights off if not in a room. Try washing clothes in cold water. Try doing larger loads than a lot of smaller loads. Try hanging more items to dry, then in the dryer. Instead of using your air conditioner could you open windows, when cold could you wear warmer clothes around the house or use blankets when watching TV? I have seen a family of five that used less utilities in there house than a single person did in there apartment.

5. Grocery Shopping you can save money there buy just buying Store Brands over Name Brands.

6. Clothes shopping. Do you need to go to the name brand stores or could you go to outlets? Another stores are the stores that people donate there clothes to, I have been to many of them and they have some clothes there still have the tags still on them, never worn before.

7. Vacations. Vacations are great for family time and for recharging yourself. Make a list of many vacation ideas, there are a lot of places to go on vacation that are fun, exciting, but yet low cost. But shop around for airfare, hotels, etc. I had a friend just get a room in Las Vegas for a net cost of $25 per night on the strip, he was looking at spending $150 per night at a deal he found. Also remember anything is negotiable also. Don't be shy, ask for the best deal at where ever you are. A Investor I know says she normally gets a better price for just asking for it, her husband just said last weekend that no way she could get them to lower the price, all the hotels were full in the area, this hotel only had two rooms left. She did get a better deal on there room, for just asking.

8. Question your self when you feel there is something you want to buy. I hear it all the time from friends or co-workers, they say "How did you see they have TV's on Sale" or other items. We see ad's all the time, in the paper, on TV. There is so much temptation to spend money. Ask your self the next time you want to buy something- Is it a want or a need?

Anything is Possible
Things may look bad to you right now. But anything is possible. If you don't see anyway to live with in your means you may need to ask for budget help. It is easier for someone who is on the outside to see a path to getting back on track. I believe anyone can reach Financial Freedom. I am not saying it is easy, but it is possible.
