Preparing For Golf

By: Claire Jones

You look outside and you see that it is a perfect day for a round of golf however before you head out to tackle the greens there are a few important things that you need to go through and be aware of, in order to have a successful and enjoyable round. Before you leave your home it is important that you check out the weather conditions. The lst thing you want to happen is that you find you have dressed innapropriately as this can lead to a very uncomfortable and unenjoyable day on the golf course. You will need to bring certain items for certain conditions.

If you find that the conditions are forecasted to be clear and nice then you should also dress appropriately. In this weather you would want to wear a nice cotton polo and cotton knit pants. Sometimes players want to wear walking shorts to play, however this only can happen if they are allowed by the golf club. It is also recommended to wear a hat or something on your head to protect yourseld from the sun. Golfers should also always wear sunscreen as the UV rays can be very damaging. On a raining day the players should use an umbrella and a rain suit.

A golfers bag is very important and is one of the first things that a player should think about before they head out on the green. The bags need to be equipped with many more things than just clubs and balls, things that can make the day much more comfortable. Some examples include, cotton towels to wipe away sweat and mud that may accumulate, a rain suit or rain jacket incase it becomes wet and rainy, a spare shirt incase the other gets dirty or wet, and of course a spare set of socks. You can't forget your golf shoes as well.

Remember that you have to spend about five hours on the golf course so you need to be prepared. But what do you do once you get there? You should arrive about one hour prior to the start of your round to make sure you get various things done. Once you arrive you shoudl immediately head to the pro shop to check in, pay for your round, get your golf cart key and buy any other items that you might need for your round. Usually you can purchase a bucket of balls to warm up with at the practise range just before you tee off.

Many golf players spend around 20 minutes hitting golf balls and warming up before their round. After you stretch your muscles you should hit a few shots with every club. You should begin with the pitching wedge and work right up until the driver. After hitting a bucket of balls you can move to the practice green and work on your putting. Putting is essential to the game. You should take three balls and practice putting on three identical putts from different parts of the practice green.

Around ten minutes before your scheduled tee time you shoudl check if you want to take a fresh drink onto the course. In addition it is always good to try to go to the bathroom before because the last thing you want to happen is you need to go to the bathroom whilst you are on the course. Once you arive to the first tee you will need to check in with the course starter who will cue your group in line to begin. You can use this waiting time to do your final preparations for your round. It is a good idea to put a few tees into your pocket, a couple of balls and something to use as a ball marker on the greens.
