Promoting Health Awareness

Health is something we often take for granted. We have all become prone to various illnesses and disease because we take our bodies for granted. We work too hard, rest too little. We party on our free time instead of relax. It is this fast-paced, hectic lifestyle we lead is the one that brings us to our downfall.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a world-wide campaign to promote health awareness to enable people to take control over their health and do something to improve it. To people actively involved in promoting health awareness, it is looked at as a science and an art of helping people make slow but significant changes in their lifestyles so that they can gear towards an optimal state of health.

Various programs are being launched to educate the masses of different diseases and various ways to keeping the body healthier longer. Here are some health promotion campaigns:
Health observance dates
These are delegated days, weeks, or months devoted to promoting particular health concerns. A good example would be December 1st, which is observed worldwide as World AIDS Day. Various programs are launched by health promotion units to reach out to the masses and inform them of the truths and misconceptions about the disease. Other months are designated for other diseases as well.
Spreading the news.
A lot of articles on health promotion are being published each day. Private organizations have taken it onto themselves to start publishing informational articles that the public can read through to become more aware of the different health issues surrounding, as well as the many ways to avoid getting sick. Both online and through newspapers, the public has access to different archives of health articles for references.
Reach out through popular media
Thanks to modern technology, the government has found a way to bring health-related information to the masses in a more exciting and fun approach. Interactive health communication (IHC) aims to use various forms of media such as CDs, DVDs, computers, and the Internet to reach out to the younger generation.
Distributing health promotion kits
Universities have also taken part in this nationwide movement to promote better health. Stanford University has created health promotion kits and booklets to help inculcate the importance of health to everybody. The university’s health kits contain step-by-step guidelines that the readers can use to change their behavior towards exercising their way to better health. Booklets can be used as a guideline to a healthier lifestyle in terms of nutrition and physical activities.

Private citizens can also do their part to help promote health awareness to more people. They can participate in their local community’s health promotion drive; or volunteer at a local health clinic to hand out various fliers discussing health concerns or help set-up health-awareness seminars. Those who have first-hand experienced of battling a difficult medical condition can also spread awareness by sharing their stories to people to serve as a lesson. You may personally look at it as a small job, but it will make a huge effect on America’s campaign to make our country healthier.
