Always make sure before you hire someone to do the job, that both parties understand exactly what the repair and clean up will entail, how much it is going to cost and how long the job should take to be completed. Get it in writing and never give payment in full until the job has been satisfactorily completed. Being licensed and insured is essential for anyone you hire.

Although, repairing the damaged sewer lines in your yard is an important part of the job, the cleanup of the extremely toxic waste is just as important as the smells and germs are sure to be unlivable. Make sure this part of the job is done well and stands up to the local ordinances concerning sewage clean up. If your sewage problem was caused by the city sewage system, they may be liable for the cost which might save you a large sum of money.

Using a septic line cleaner that can be flushed down your toilet is a good prevention for build up in your sewer lines, especially in the older lines. These cleaning products are inexpensive and easy to use. They can be a helpful tool to keep your sewer pipes clean, as clean as a sewer pipe can be anyway. Other forms of water damage such as flooding and condensation buildup can be very unpleasant problems to have to deal with, but sewage water damage is by far the nastiest and smelliest of them all.
