Sheffield is in south yorkshire that boasts a population of of over 525,000. in recent years, Sheffield has seen some extensive redevelopment & now has some gorgeous modern buildings, which include the Millennium Galleries.

Unlike numerous big cities, sheffield is geographically diverse. its situated at the confluence of 5 rivers & most of the city is built on hillsides with views into the city centre or out to the countryside. with an estimated two million trees, Sheffield boasts more trees per person than any other european city. The Sheffield area has been there since the last ice age at least. despite this, it was during the eighteenth century with the arrival of the steel works, that the city really prospered. Indeed, the town was granted borough status in 1843 & made a city in 1893.

In the early 1970s, many of the city's steel works were closed thanks to world wide competition. although this caused mass unemployment, Sheffield was later revitalised & it is now a thriving, modern city that is well known for its music, wonderful music & pretty park spaces.

As we've already mentioned, Sheffield is a cultured city. This means that it has plenty of fabulous museums and galleries to explore.

One of our favourite museums is Bishop House. built around 1500, Bishop House is the most well preserved timber framed home in Sheffield. it's located at the top of Meersbrook Park and has been lived in by many different families over the years[/MARK Now its open as a museum and has some stunning period furniture, which gives the visitor a real taste of olde england.

Sheffield has plenty to offer shopping lovers. the city boasts meadowhall, which is a massive shopping centre with over 240 shops. The shopping centre opened its doors in 1990 & was one of the first out of town shopping malls in england.

Despite this, Sheffield city centre boasts some great shops, too. in actual fact, you'll find everything there, from high street shops like make over, to kooky independent shops.

Sheffield is well-known for its night life, which means that it's a fabulous place to visit for a night out. in actual fact, the city has numerous inns, wine bars, and night clubs.

Sheffield is home to fabulous bands including the arctic monkeys, abc, the last shadow puppets and ABC. if you want to catch the next big thing, you could visit one of the city's fabulous live music venues, including the plug.
