Things I Do Just before Hiring a Lawyer.

By: aaroah sunil

Well, yes you must have heard this and read it

more than a gazillion times. "What to consider

before taking in a lawyer" Well, I'm going to tell

you what to consider too, but these are things I

learned from my sour and nice experiences.

1. Be informed- Before you even approach a

lawyer, read a lot, read about the nature of your

accusation that you have been put against, read

about different lawyers specialized in such cases,

and read about the money involved. You can

read big head articles like this too!

2. Shortlists, Directories- You can know the

alternatives that you have in hand when you go

through directories and find lawyers, the best

place to begin are law libraries.

3. Make sure he has a good record - Yes, if he

has some cases under his belt and even if he

loses some of them, it does not matter. Don't get

too highly romantic and hire a lawyer new into

the area of law, we are playing with money here,

and not looking to sponsor new kiddos. Nothing

can beat experience. Also, make sure that is he’s

a specialized in this area of law.
4. Talk to to the person - Speak, talk, talk and

talk. Outside the office and within the office, get

to know him, if you're at ease with him, then

sweet! Because you will have to tell him a lot of

anecdotes that would need you both to be at ease

with each other.

5. Determine his confidence level- Very

important! See if he's confident about your

solving your case and your chance of survival,

even if you have a really good chance, a

lackluster lawyer can make you bankrupt.

6. Determine his attention level and his calendar-

As you talk, try and estimate if he's really

interested, they can be smooth talkers, so you

will need to be on your guard. And also see that

he is not squeezing your problem within a

multitude of cases that he already has. We need

full attention.

7. Referrals- Yup, nothing like it if you have

really good referrals from reliable sources, you

can always beat up the source if anything goes

disarray!

8. Money- Yeah, money is an important thing all

the time, make sure that you have enough of it

and he is asking only what is enough for the case

and himself. But money should not be a priority if

you trust him.

9. Routine Check- Just snoop around about him,

and make sure that everything is under check.

10. Don't be carried away- He may promise you

the stars, don’t be carried away, tell him to be

frank and ask him how bad the problem is, clear

all your doubts one by one. As long as both of

you have no doubts, it can save a lot of time.

I was done in once by a lawyer, and hence I

have been careful dealing with them, they are

hard nuts to crack, so be up for it!
