Yorkshire boasts a rich history, which goes back earlier than roman times. Indeed, the earliest inhabitants of the county were the Celts, who came from two separate tribes, the Brigantes and the Parisii.

Despite this, Yorkshire owes much of its growth to the industrial revolution, which happened during the 19th century. The county had a thriving coal, textile and steel industry around this time, which increased its population and made it much richer.

During world war two, Yorkshire became a key base for raf Bomber aeroplanes.

Because Yorkshire is such a massive place, there's lots of things to do. Indeed, you'll find that the county boasts plenty of museums & art galleries to offer.
